Description

  • Learning English is essential in today’s world especially in education in a multilingual Europe, however it can be a challenging task for busy teachers.  It is often on our “to do” list but we never have enough time or motivation to really get started.
  • Whether you are an Early Years or Primary teacher, a Secondary or Subject teacher, or you may be just beginning a Content and Language Integrated Learning project or starting a new European one, this course will provide you with important skills and increase your confidence in English. 
  • Our intensive course focuses on developing speaking and listening skills, as well as reading and writing, with boosting confidence and fluency our priority.  Throughout the course, there are opportunities to reflect on activities and to practise language functions in contexts that are relevant to your teaching.  

Learning objectives

  • To create a fun and supportive learning environment to practise English with our European colleagues.
  • To facilitate the collection and use of a wide range of language functions in English.
  • To help educators develop confidence when speaking and listening.
  • To support educators to extend working vocabulary.
  • To give opportunities for educators to improve reading skills.
  • To support educators in completing simple writing tasks.
  • To encourage educators develop techniques and motivation to continue their English learning.
  • To give participants a close-up and personal insight into the Icelandic school system.
  • To encourage physical activity whilst learning.
  • To present a huge bank of games and gamification techniques to take away.
  • To give educators the opportunity to share successful activities they use in their own school/country so we can learn from each other.
  • To help educators plan the vision for their continued English learning 
  • and create a realistic implementation plan.

Methodology & assessment

YOU WILL PRACTISE ENGLISH THROUGH:
• Fun warm-up, ice-breaking and team-building activities.
• Regular short brain-breaks when necessary to demonstrate energising, calming and brain-gym activities with language focuses.
• Routine classroom language in action
• Speaking boards for different subjects
• Role play, storytelling and drama activities
• Chants and rhymes
• Practical tasks
• Online and digital tasks
• Leading a successful activity from your own practice in our sharing good practice session.
• Structured networking opportunities to find suitable partners to continue your Erasmus learning journey.
• An Icelandic school visit including presentation of the school, question and answer session and classroom pop-ins.
• Vision planning session at the end of the course to create an action based on learning during the mobility.
• Presentations of vision plans.
• Active listening session to reflect on course experience.
• Cultural activities:The “Icelandic Corner", and cultural evening.
