Description

  • Suitable for School Principals, Subject Department heads, teacher support/development staff, primary, secondary & tertiary-level teachers in all subject areas and teacher trainers.
  • Minimum language level: B1.

Effective Lesson Observations, Feedback, and Supportive Assessment are an integral part of the whole teaching and learning process and this applies as much to staff development as it does to student progress.

In this week-long session managers and educators alike will develop their skills of evaluating their staff and peers, creating relevant documents to record observation data, giving useful written and oral feedback in a non-threatening, supportive manner, and setting appropriate and challenging goals for the future.
Throughout this course participants will also develop their language skills, gaining key vocabulary related to feedback. This course will involve theoretical input and practical classroom observation sessions.

Learning objectives

The learning objectives emphasise understanding and improving the lesson observation process to support professional development and teaching excellence.

  • Participants will explore the purpose, fairness, and effectiveness of observations, identify key elements for both observers and observees, and develop tools to make the process user-friendly.
  • Skills in constructive feedback, communication, and goal-setting (including SMART goals) are prioritised, alongside creating personal development plans and sharing best practices to support colleagues.
  • Collaboration, presentation skills, and peer assessment are integral, with a focus on applying insights to enhance CPD initiatives and staff welfare in their own institutions.

Methodology & assessment

All our sessions are practical and dynamic and include a focus on multimedia and technology for teaching purposes. This course is taught interactively, with discussion, brainstorming sessions, workshops and group work.
You will be encouraged to take an active role in all sessions, maximising your use of English, and experiencing for yourself the activities your learners will be participating in. This course is designed to help you reflect on your approach to teaching today’s pupils.
