
English for Admin Staff
This course is an intensive professional training course for administrative staff working in all types of educational institutions who need English to regularly interact effectively with students, colleagues and other stakeholders.
Description
This course is primarily aimed at administrative staff who wish to develop their own professional skills and communicative competence in English, in order to more effectively communicate with students, colleagues and other stakeholders.
We also wish to enable participants to dig deeper into Irish culture, and with this in mind, there is an element of lessons about Irish history, culture and literature built into the course.
There is a space for participants to voice their own ideas and exchange practices with classmates, who come from a range of countries and educational backgrounds. Participants must have at least an Intermediate (B1) level of English. The lessons take place in mixed nationality groups at our school in Dublin, with no more than 15 students per class and courses last for either 1 or 2 weeks. Various accommodation options are available on request for participants throughout their stay.

Learning objectives
- Manage communications and interact with students, colleagues and stakeholders more effectively.
- Be able to better decode and respond to oral and written messages (cross-cultural communication).
- Demonstrate increased control and flexibility over a range of grammatical structures and functions to communicate ideas for a range of professional purposes.
- Gain awareness of Irish culture and society through topical, interactive lessons.
- Establish contacts with teachers from a variety of education systems to facilitate future networking.
Methodology & assessment
- Participants are expected to actively participate in the lessons, reflecting on their own beliefs and practice, and sharing thoughts, ideas and expertise in pair work, small groups and with the class as a whole.
- During the course participants will also take part in a range of afternoon activities where they will be encouraged to develop their language skills in a more informal environment outside the classroom and further enhance their knowledge of contemporary Ireland.
- Assessment is based around continuous evaluation of learner progress.
Materials, digital tools & other learning resources
Participants are provided with all materials in digital format via Google Classroom, which they will be able to access after completing the course.
They will also be provided with paper handouts and textbooks as necessary.
Certification details
The certificate includes the name of the course, duration and dates of the course, and course content.

Cancellation & changes:
If a participant cancels their course more than 30 days before the course commences, all fees will be refunded.
A participant may change the course or date of the course up to 30 days before the courses commences, and in exceptional cases, at shorter notice if other courses and course dates are available.
Refunds, partial refunds or compensation of any kind will not be given for days missed during the course, for late arrival or early departure, days missed due to adverse weather conditions, acts of governments, interruption of electrical power, fire, floods, war, other natural disasters, disease outbreaks or other cases of force majeure.
