Emerging Technologies for Education - The EMTEC4ED Online Course

The Emerging Technologies for Education (EMTEC4ED) Erasmus+ project is a small scale-partnership (2022-2-MT01-KA210-SCH-000094712) which aims to create a new syllabus for educators in order to help them become Emerging Tech Leaders in their schools. The project will not create yet another stream within the existing educational system but will help teachers assimilate emerging technologies within their existing curricula. This will help them create engaging and fun lessons without imposing additional burdens on them while teaching 21st-century skills to their students.

The project started with a literature review to identify best practices currently in use in schools. This was followed by a survey amongst teachers to identify how such technologies can be utilised in the curriculum. This information was then used to design and develop a 3.5hrs online course which covers emerging technologies for education, such as Artifical Intelligence (AI), Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR and AR) and 3D Printing. The course can be accessed at https://www.emtec4ed.com/course/ and is currently available in English and Serbian. All successful participants will receive a certificate of completion for each completed module.

In terms of project impact, we expect emerging technologies to become an integral part of the primary school curricula. Teachers should use them as an extension of their textbooks. In doing so we hope that more children get accustomed to them and learn to use them as a tool they can adopt when they grow up. Furthermore, we hope that this course serves to extend the use of the technologies to other years as well, thus ensuring that our educational system really starts preparing our students for the challenges of the future.
