
DESIGN THINKING IN EDUCATION
Timetable: 9 AM to 2:30 PM daily (extracurricular activities outside of learning activities). 5 days, 25 lessons. Language Level Required: English A1 – C1.
Description
Participants in the "Design Thinking in Education" course will be evaluated based on their engagement in design challenges, projects, and a final real-world problem-solving task using design thinking. By completing the course, they'll gain proficiency in applying design thinking to educational issues, fostering empathy, defining problems, generating innovative solutions, testing strategies, collaborating effectively, integrating design thinking into education, reflecting on their work, communicating solutions, and applying design thinking in practical scenarios. This comprehensive skill set enables them to drive positive change and innovation within educational contexts. Additionally, they will present a personal mini research project, receiving feedback from peers to further enhance their learning and application of design thinking principles.
Learning objectives
Introduction to Design Thinking: focusing on its core principles and mindset, which include empathy, ideation, prototyping, and testing. It discusses the relevance of empathy in education, highlighting techniques to understand others and the world better. It also covers problem-solving skills, emphasizing the importance of identifying root causes and formulating meaningful problem statements. Additionally, it explores fostering creativity, prototyping, and testing solutions in education to reduce the risk of ineffective interventions. Collaboration and teamwork are underscored as crucial for addressing complex educational issues. Methods for integrating design thinking into educational practices, as well as fostering reflection and continuous improvement, are also discussed.
