Cultural heritage - El Camino de Santiago as cultural heritage route, from Middle-ages to the future (Pamplona, Burgos, Santiago - Spain)
The Way of St. James (El Camino de Santiago) was one of the most important Christian pilgrimages during the Middle Ages, together with the Via Francigena to Rome and the pilgrimage to Jerusalem. From being very frequently visited during the Middle Ages, the route fell to oblivion due to several reasons (Black Death, Protestant Reformation etc), nevertheless without losing its heritage character.
Description
October 1987 saw the route gaining back its glory by being declared as the first European Cultural Route by the Council of Europe and as an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Over 438.000 pilgrims (2022) set out across Europe, to walk the way to Santiago de Compostela. The aim is to walk often for days or weeks/months/years, to pay respects to St. James by arriving at the cathedral in the main square of Compostela. Well known figures have also walked the Camino like Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Paulo Coelho, Shirley MacLaine, Martin Sheen with his son Emilio Estevez and Sting, documenting their experiences.
Therefore, the Camino de Santiago is more than just a pilgrimage route. It is a cultural heritage element that has been shaped by the traditions of the people who have walked it and a journey that has become a symbol of European cultural identity. It continues to attract pilgrims from all over the world who seek spiritual enlightenment and a sense of accomplishment. OUR Way provides a unique opportunity to experience the past and to transfer it to our classrooms. Pamplona, Burgos and Santiago are the three cities that this course will visit as important landmarks of the Way of Santiago due to their historical and cultural connection with the way.
Trainers will be in contact with the participants in order to solve any questions or doubts and provide advice on accommodation, airports, airlines etc. They will also familiarize participants with the website of the seminars (https://www.learntoteacheu.org/106-elcamino-pamplona-burgos-santiago) which will be used to upload pedagogical material created during the course duration.
- Course fee: 510 euros per person. It includes the course fee, entry tickets where needed, and transportation within the working days of the course. Airport transport and accommodation are not included. Please, take into consideration that sending institutions should have an insurance coverage for their participants as stated in the Erasmus+ Quality St
Learning objectives
The main objective of this course is to take El Camino de Santiago as an example of how the future should be formed in terms of ethics and values. The historic, artistic and spiritual aspects of The Way will demonstrate that no matter how the future changes, the humanistic values (compasion, companionship, dignity, morality, empathy etc) will still be present.
Furthermore, we aim to facilitate our participants in their quest for networking and collaborating with other participants and institutions. Following the original objectives of Erasmus+, we take very seriously the exchange of ideas, experiences and methodologies. Thus, our day to day programme, includes theory, discussion, cultural activities and practice.
Methodology & assessment
Participants are asked to create a simple activity (teaching or other) and upload in on our working platform. In this way, produced material can be shared among the group and thus, enrich their pedagogical activities obtained.
To ensure optimum enjoyment of the course, we communicate the next day's briefing and we create a group communication tool in order to avoid changes or unexpected situations. Our goal is to enhance the exprerience and to construct relationships among the participants and our trainers that can lead to future partnerships and collaborations.
Certification details
We take our participants' personal development seriously and consequently, we offer a Certificate of Attendance that is in line with the specifications of Erasmus Quality Standards for Mobilities. The Certificate states the number of hours of the course (30), the place and date of the course and the participant's name. Our participants usually need to produce a simple activity/product which will be uploaded in our working platform. Upon the completion of this task, the participants can receive the certificate.
We also certify and sign the Mobility Agreement, Quality Commitment and Europass Mobility or any other document our participants wish to obtain in order to comply with Erasmus+ and/or their personal development.
