Unlock the power of reading

Our project is for students aged 8 – 10 and it will last eight months. Every month we will read a book to our students and then we will do tasks connected to the book. The main aims of our project are: introducing students to the world of literature and developing English language and mother tongue.

Final online meeting

Pinned

It was our final meeting hosted by me (Monika Piasecka). Though not everyone could be with us (we weren't able to fix the date that satisfies everyone), some teachers joined us alone.

We started our lesson with greeting everyone and saluting the flags. The second part (the main part) was to introduce the schools and describe their favourite task. It was a big challenge for our young students to speak English in front of the camera, but they did great. All the teachers were proud. We have also looked how their schools and classrooms look like.

The third part was playing Kahoot quiz. The quiz had 10 questions stricly connected to our project (flags, e-safety rules, reading comprehension skills). It was a great fun - kids love to play games and especially with such a big team!

The next part was a kind of surprise. Before the meeting, all the schools had to record a fragment of our project's main song (created with ChatGPT and Suno), and Mrs Monika was in charge to create a song of it. We have listened to the whole song for the first time on our meeting - everyone listened, sung and cheered, it was a wonderful experience.

At the end of our online lesson we have said "goodbye".

Our final meeting was over, but the memories will last long.

Summary of April's tasks

Pinned

In April we have read our project's last book and its title is "The Jungle Book".

The next task was a manual one: students have created bookmarks for their peers from other countries. Teachers have sent them. It was a wonderful idea, and the students will remember this task for a long time.

The last task was an international cooperation. We have made up plans of each day of the week and described what a "dream week" should look like. Students have also created colourful slides in Canva.

In March we will read adventures of "Peter Pan", a story of a boy who never grows up and has many adventures with his friends.

The second task will be to create an ebook with legends from our countries. Students described and painted their favourite legend.

In February we have read a book called "Inside out". Then, in the second task we have talked about our emotions and we have created an ebook with ideas of how to get rid of bad emotions.

The last task in February was to create a presentation about cybersafety.

Summary of December and January's tasks

Pinned

In December and January we have done four tasks. First one was to create Christmas cards and upload them to the main Padlet for everyone to see them (we have paired the students so they sent the cards directly to their friend from other country). The second task was to read the book "Frozen". We all know the adventures of Elsa and Anna, but to read the book version was a new option for everyone of us. It was a great idea. After that, students created posters or painted themselves as superheroes with great powers that they have. The last task was to create a guide on cooperation. As Anna had to find new friends and cooperate to find Elsa, we also have to cooperate in school on the neigbourhood. That's why we have brainstormed with our students the ideas for good cooperation.

Christmas online meetings

Pinned

This was our next online meeting. But it was not an ordinary one, because it was about Christmas!

Due to the difficulties in setting the date, we organized two meetings: the first group met on December 11 and the second group on December 19. We wanted our students to get to know their peers and share the Christmas atmosphere.

At the beginning of each meeting, we greeted each other, sang carols and songs in our native languages. Then, to wrap up, we also played a Kahoot game created by Mrs. Mehtap from Turkiye and it was a great moment to have fun. At the end of the lesson, we all said “Merry Christmas” in our languages. The lesson was a really inspiring time. Thank you all for participating!

Summary of November's tasks

Pinned

In November, we have read the book called "Winnie the Pooh". After reading, we have done two tasks: a presentation called "What makes a good friend" and a video "Living in the woods". The presentation is a sort of guide of what characteristics should a good friend have. Students have brainstormed the ideas and then we created a presentation.

Winnie and his friends lived in the woods, so we tried to think about the animals that live in the woods of our countries. We have created models or painting with the woods and animals. It was also a fantastic art exercise.
