Measuring CO2
A very interesting way for students to become aware of the problem created on our planet by carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere is by creating this gas themselves in the laboratory and measuring the volume trapped in a balloon.
By mixing the appropriate amounts of cleaning vinegar and baking soda in a flask, you'll create a volume of CO2 that, with care, can be used to inflate a balloon. Then, using a flexible tape measure, you can measure the perimeter of the resulting sphere and, using the correct formulas, obtain the number of liters of gas trapped (and released from its emission into the atmosphere).
