Happy eTwinning Day & Happy Europe Day 2024

Europe Day is celebrated throughout the European Union on May 9 and celebrates European peace and unity. The date marks the anniversary of the historic Schuman Declaration of 1950, in which the then French Foreign Minister and future President of the European Parliament, Robert Schuman, proposed the establishment of the European Coal and Steel Community in order for countries to pool coal and steel production and thus make war "not only unthinkable but and materially impossible". The Schuman Declaration resulted in the establishment of a common market for coal and steel and created the foundations of the European Union as we know it today.

In addition to Europe Day, the eTwinning community of educators from 46 countries of the old continent celebrates May 9 as eTwinning Day. This year, eTwinning explores the topic of well-being in schools, recognizing its role in academic success and overall student satisfaction.

Europe Day and eTwinning Day on May 9, 2024 were celebrated by teachers Nada Ratković from Ban Josip Jelačić Secondary Vocational School from Sinj and Marija Istenić from Split Commercial School via the Zoom platform from 17:40 to 19:05.

Zoom

From our school, 20 students of the 4th grade, who are studying to become commercialists, and teacher Marija Istenić, who is in charge of the eTwinning project at the school, participated in the project.

In today's understanding of education, it is very important to apply innovative teaching methods and integrate information technologies into education. The goal of our project is to use technological development to create innovative educational environments, use web tools, teach algorithm and coding logic, develop students' analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, enable students to develop projects and experience teamwork, learn to research and work in groups, and innovative and with a creative approach, ensure cooperation between partner schools. Our project is connected to the Erasmus project and enables education with the support of the project.

During the project activities, the students presented themselves and their schools, the Web tools used in the project, and created the project's logo and poster. With the activities within the project, the students marked important events within the school and presented them to their peers. The common task for all students was the organization of Coding Week events and Kahoot events on the occasion of Safer Internet Day.

Students developed critical thinking, creativity, innovation, mutual communication, cooperation, teamwork and a sense of responsibility. While working on the project, students used various digital tools (Powtoone, Kahoot, Padlet, Storyjumper, Adobe Spark, Animoto, Prezi, Genially, Bubble.us, Canva...). The students also developed other skills such as language, media, entrepreneurial, social and digital, which is the goal of project classes.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2024.

"This is our world and it is our responsibility to save and protect it."

World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5, on the anniversary of the United Nations Conference in Stockholm (1972) dedicated to the environment, where the United Nations Environmental Protection Program (UNEP) was adopted. The United Nations Environment Program seeks to highlight major environmental problems and enable everyone to understand their own role and responsibility in thinking and acting towards the sustainable development of our environment.

In the last decade, we all feel the consequences of climate change (rains, floods, droughts, cold...) and the impact on the environment. At the same time, responsibility for them is borne not only by the policies of individual countries and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), which should emphasize and advocate environmental policy, but also secondary activities (industry, mining, energy...) as the largest producers of harmful greenhouse gases, and individuals who with their thinking and lifestyle, they influence the environment in which they live. World Environment Day is precisely why it unites all participants in this process, highlighting joint efforts and successes in achieving and preserving a healthy environment.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2024.

World Environment Day was celebrated on June 5, 2023 in our school by students of the third grade of commercial studies with their mentors Ivan Čota and Marija Istenić. By emphasizing the issue of large amounts of unused and wasted food, our goal is to encourage students to think about the impact that food production and consumption has on the environment. The main message is to reduce the generation of food waste, i.e. food waste and thereby protect the environment. We also want to reconsider our relationship to nature and the environment and develop awareness of the preservation and sustainable use of natural resources.

We do all this for our own health, the health of our loved ones

and our planet!

World Sustainable Energy Day 2024

The World Sustainable Energy Day is celebrated every year on April 26, the day of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster that occurred in 1986, with the aim of raising awareness of the need for research and application of renewable energy sources - wind, sun, water, biomass, geothermal sources.

World Sustainable Energy Day 2024

The natural potential of renewable energy sources in Croatia is extremely large and is a significant foundation for balanced regional development. Renewable energy unites the European goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, is an indispensable part of the Green Agreement, the National Climate and Energy Plan, the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, as well as the European Commission's RePowerEU plan. All of the above is an opportunity, but also an obligation for the responsible and more efficient use of renewable energy sources and the realization of the benefits they bring not only to the energy sector but to the entire economy.

On April 26, 2024, the World Sustainable Energy Day was also marked by the students of the Split Commercial School with their mentor Marija Istenić who showed them the importance of renewable energy sources through the course Entrepreneurship.

Renewable energy sources and their promotion will not only contribute to the protection of the environment and bring a number of savings, but will also initiate new activities and the development of new technologies, thus contributing to the development of the economy.

Improving the efficiency of energy consumption will also help improve economic stability by increasing the competitiveness of industrial production and reducing dependence on imported energy, and will also lead to the creation of new jobs.
