Dear students,

Celebrated on February 4th each year, World Cancer Day is an international day aimed at raising awareness about cancer and encouraging its prevention, detection, and treatment. Cancer affects millions of people worldwide, and understanding it can empower us to take action. In this WebQuest, you will learn about different types of cancer, their risk factors, and how to support those affected by cancer.

There are two padlets about Cancer Day please go to link and add your works;

    • Think about why you chose this type of cancer and what interests you about it.

    • Use reputable websites to find the following information about your chosen cancer:
      • Definition: What is this type of cancer?
      • Symptoms: Common signs to look out for.
      • Risk Factors: What increases the likelihood of developing this cancer? (e.g., lifestyle choices, genetics)
      • Preventive Measures: How can people reduce their risk? (e.g., diet, exercise, regular screenings)

Develop a Supportive Message

  1. Write a Supportive Message
    • Think of someone affected by cancer. This could be a friend, family member, or even a public figure you admire. Your message should aim to provide encouragement and comfort.
    • Include the following elements:
      • Greeting: Start with a warm greeting.
      • Acknowledgment: Recognize their feelings and struggles, showing empathy.
      • Encouragement: Share uplifting thoughts or personal anecdotes that can motivate them.
      • Support Offer: Mention that you are there for them, whether for a conversation or practical help.
    • Example structure:
      • "Dear [Name],
I just wanted to take a moment to let you know that I’m thinking of you during this challenging time. I can only imagine how tough it must be, but I want you to remember that you are not alone. You have so many people who care about you and are rooting for you every step of the way. If you ever want to talk, or if there’s anything I can do to help, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You’ve got this!"
  2. Present Your Message
    • Prepare to share your message with the class. You can read it aloud or write it on a card and display it on a bulletin board dedicated to World Cancer Day.
    • Discuss the importance of showing support and empathy towards those affected by cancer and how your message can uplift someone going through a tough time.
