Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderón (6 July 1907 – 13 July 1954) was a Mexican painter known for her many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico. Inspired by the country's popular culture, she employed a naïve folk art style to explore questions of identity, postcolonialism, gender, class, and race in Mexican society. Her paintings often had strong autobiographical elements and mixed realism with fantasy. In addition to belonging to the post-revolutionary Mexicayotl movement, which sought to define a Mexican identity, Kahlo has been described as a surrealist or magical realist. She is also known for painting about her experience of chronic pain.
Born to a German father and a mestiza mother, Kahlo spent most of her childhood and adult life at La Casa Azul, her family home in Coyoacán – now publicly accessible as the Frida Kahlo Museum. Although she was disabled by polio as a child, Kahlo had been a promising student headed for medical school until being injured in a bus accident at the age of 18, which caused her lifelong pain and medical problems. During her recovery, she returned to her childhood interest in art with the idea of becoming an artist.

Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dalí i Domènech, Marquess of Dalí of (11 May 1904 – 23 January 1989), known as Salvador Dalí was a Spanish surrealist artist renowned for his technical skill, precise draftsmanship, and the striking and bizarre images in his work.
Born in Figueres in Catalonia, Dalí received his formal education in fine arts in Madrid. Influenced by Impressionism and the Renaissance masters from a young age, he became increasingly attracted to Cubism and avant-garde movements. He moved closer to Surrealism in the late 1920s and joined the Surrealist group in 1929, soon becoming one of its leading exponents. His best-known work, The Persistence of Memory, was completed in August 1931. Dalí lived in France throughout the Spanish Civil War (1936 to 1939) before leaving for the United States in 1940 where he achieved commercial success. He returned to Spain in 1948 where he announced his return to the Catholic faith and developed his "nuclear mysticism" style, based on his interest in classicism, mysticism, and recent scientific developments.
Dalí's artistic repertoire included painting, sculpture, film, graphic arts, animation, fashion, and photography, at times in collaboration with other artists. He also wrote fiction, poetry, autobiography, essays, and criticism. Major themes in his work include dreams, the subconscious, sexuality, religion, science and his closest personal relationships. To the dismay of those who held his work in high regard, and to the irritation of his critics, his eccentric and ostentatious public behavior often drew more attention than his artwork. His public support for the Francoist regime, his commercial activities and the quality and authenticity of some of his late works have also been controversial. His life and work were an important influence on other Surrealists, pop art, popular culture, and contemporary artists such as Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst.

I am Vincent van Gogh. I was born in 1853 in a small town in the Netherlands. My family was religious, and when I was young I wanted to become a priest, but life took me on different paths. I always had a restlessness inside me, I could not find my place. I worked at various jobs, but I could not live without painting. When I really turned to painting, I was 27 years old, maybe it was a late start, but I was working passionately. I went to Paris, got to know the art world there, discovered colors. But city life was hard on me. I escaped to the South of France, to Arles, and followed the sun, nature and light. I painted my most beautiful paintings during that period; Sunflowers, Starry Night, and many more... But I was alone. My only friend was my brother Theo. He always supported me, but the storms inside me never calmed down. That famous incident... Yes, I cut off my ear. Why? Maybe it was a scream, maybe I was lost inside myself. My soul was sick, so I was admitted to a mental hospital. But even there I continued to paint. Art was my only support. Then I moved to a town, Auvers-sur-Oise. I painted my last paintings there, wheat fields, winds, hurricanes… But the storm inside me did not subside. I took my own life at the age of 37. No one knew me then. But now… Now my works travel the world, millions of people look at my paintings, get lost in my colors. I may have left too early, but my

Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes (March 30, 1746, Zaragoza (province) - April 16, 1828, Bordeaux) was a Spanish painter and engraver, one of the leading figures of the Romanticism movement. His paintings, drawings and engravings reflected contemporary historical turmoil and influenced important 19th and 20th century painters. Goya is often referred to as the last of the Old Masters and the first of the moderns. Goya was born in 1746 to a middle-class family in Fuendetodos, Aragon. He studied painting from the age of 14 under José Luzán y Martinez and moved to Madrid to study with Anton Raphael Mengs. He married Josefa Bayeu in 1773. Goya became court painter to the Spanish Crown in 1786, and this early period of his career was marked by portraits of the Spanish aristocracy and royalty, as well as caricatures of Rococo tapestries for the royal court. Although Goya's letters and writings survive, little is known about his thoughts. An undiagnosed serious illness in 1793 left him deaf, and his work thereafter became increasingly dark and pessimistic. His later easel and mural paintings, prints and drawings from his home, entitled 'The Five of the Deaf (Quinta del Sordo),' reflect a somber outlook on personal, social and political levels, and contrast with his social rise. He was appointed Director of the Royal Academy in 1795, the year Manuel de Godoy made an unfavorable agreement with France. In 1799, Goya was promoted to Primer Pintor de Cámara (Principal Court Painter), the highest rank for a Spanish court painter. In the late 1790s, commissioned by Godoy, he completed The Nude Maya, a rather daring nude for the time and clearly indebted to Diego Velázquez. In 1800–01, again influenced by Velázquez, he painted King Carlos IV of Spain and his Family. In 1807, Napoleon led the French army into the Peninsular War against Spain. Goya remained in Madrid during this war, which seems to have deeply affected him. Although he did not publicly express his thoughts, this is evident from the prints of the Disasters of War, published 35 years after his death, and from the paintings of 2 May 1808 and 3 May 1808, dated 1814. Other works from his middle period include the series of woodcuts Los Caprichos and The Creatures of the Unreason, and a wide variety of paintings dealing with madness, asylums, witches, fantastic creatures, and religious and political corruption, all of which show his fears for the fate of his country and his own mental and physical health.

Vincent Willem van Gogh (30 March 1853 – 29 July 1890) was a Dutch post-impressionist painter. He is one of the most famous and influential figures in Western art history. In just over a decade, he produced some 2,100 paintings and drawings, including 860 oil paintings, most of which were made in the last two years of his life. These include landscapes, still lifes, portraits and self-portraits, and are distinguished by the bold colours and vivid, impulsive and expressive brushwork that are considered the foundations of modern art. He died tragically at the age of 37, after years of psychological distress and poverty, thirty hours after being shot, some say by some, and others say by others, by a gunshot.
Born into an upper-middle-class family, Van Gogh was serious, quiet and respectful as a child, and he also painted. As a youth, he worked as an art dealer, but became depressed after being sent to London. After his return, he worked as a Protestant missionary in southern Belgium. After suffering ill health and living in solitude, he returned to his parents and began painting in 1881. He was financially supported by his younger brother Theo. His early works, mostly still lifes and depictions of working peasants, lack the vivid colors that distinguished his later works. In 1886, he moved to Paris, where he met members of the avant-garde, including Émile Bernard and Paul Gauguin, who were reacting against the impressionist sensibility. As his work developed, he took a new approach to still lifes and local landscapes. He began to use brighter colors in his paintings and developed a distinctive style that he would later master in 1888, when he stayed in Arles in the south of France. During this period, olive trees, cypresses, wheat fields and sunflowers also began to appear on his canvases.

The painter, who became a twentieth-century pop culture icon, is known for her turbulent private life and political views, as well as her paintings. Although her art has been described as surrealist, she rejected this definition. She is the wife of painter Diego Rivera.
She was born in Coyoacán, south of Mexico, in 1907. Although she was born on July 6, 1907, she declared her birth date as July 7, 1910, the day the Mexican Revolution took place, and wanted her life to begin with the birth of modern Mexico.
As a result of polio, which she contracted at the age of six, one of her legs was disabled, and she was called "Wooden Leg Frida". Frida, who knew how to cope with this disability, studied at the National Preparatory School, which provided the best education of the time, during her young girlhood. This school guided her to areas such as art, literature and philosophy. Alejandro Gomez Arias, Jose Gomez Robleda and Alfonso Villa, who would later be known as important figures of Mexican intellectual life, were her schoolmates. At school, he joined an anarchist literary group; he began to develop a strong personality. A car accident at the age of 18 changed his whole life.
