SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PROJECT: LANGUAGE FOR HOPE

 

 

 

Event Title: Speaking Workshop

 

 

 

Objective: To empower disadventageous state school students through a three-day intensive speaking club, providing them with essential speaking skills and fostering confidence and self-expression.

 

 

 

Day 1(Monday/06.05.2024): Introduction Day

 

 

Welcome and Icebreaker: Team members introduce themselves and initiate an icebreaker activity to establish a comfortable environment.

-(Name Game) Team members introduce themselves and initiate an icebreaker activity to establish a comfortable environment. Each participant says their name and a word that starts with the same letter as their name (e.g., “Hi, I’m Sarah, and I love soccer”).

 

 

Presentation Skills Workshop: Basics of effective presentations, including body language, tone, and structure.

 

 

Interactive Practice: Students prepare and deliver short introductory speeches about themselves.

 

 

Feedback and Improvement: Constructive feedback provided by team members to enhance presentation skills.

 

 

Group Activity: Engaging group activity to encourage collaboration and team building.

 

 

 

Day 2(07.05.2024): Speaking Process Organization

 

 

Warm-Up Activity: Energizing activity to kick start the day and boost enthusiasm.

-(Two Truths and a Lie) Engaging group activity to encourage collaboration and team building. Each participant shares two true statements and one false statement about themselves, and the group guesses which statement is false.

 

 

Organizing Your Speech: Techniques for structuring speeches effectively, including brainstorming, outlining, and storytelling.

 

 

Interactive Workshop: Students participate in group discussions and brainstorming sessions to organize their own speeches.

 

 

Practice Sessions: Small group practice sessions where students refine their speaking skills and receive guidance from team members.

 

 

Peer Review: Students provide feedback to each other, promoting a supportive and constructive learning environment.

 

 

 

 

Day 3(08.05.2024): Activation and Student Speaking Activities

 

 

Warm-Up Activity: Fun and engaging activity to energize participants and prepare them for the day ahead.

-Warm-Up Activity: (Word Association) Energizing activity to kick start the day and boost enthusiasm. Participants stand in a circle, and each person says a word related to the previous word, creating a chain of associations.

Warm-Up Activity: (Story Circle) Fun and engaging activity to energize participants and prepare them for the day ahead. Each participant contributes a sentence to create a collaborative story.

 

 

Putting Skills into Action: Students prepare and deliver speeches on topics of their choice, applying the skills learned in previous sessions.

 

 

Peer Evaluation: Peers provide feedback on each other’s speeches, focusing on strengths and areas for improvement.

 

 

Student-Led Speaking Activities: Students take the lead in organizing and conducting speaking activities, activating their new skills.

 

 

Closing Ceremony: Celebration of achievements, certificates awarded to participants, and reflections on personal growth and learning.

 

 

 

Other Elements:

 

 

Mentorship: Each university team member is paired with 2 students to provide guidance and support throughout the program.

 

 

Materials: Handouts and resources provided to participants for continued learning and practice.

 

 

Follow-Up Support: Ongoing support and assistance beyond the program duration can continue on e-twinning space.

 

 

Evaluation: Feedback forms distributed to both students and university team members to assess the effectiveness of the program and identify areas for improvement.

 

 

Conclusion: Speaking Workshop aims to equip students from disadvantaged backgrounds with valuable speaking skills, fostering confidence, self-expression, and empowerment. Through interactive workshops, practice sessions, and student-led activities, participants will not only develop essential communication skills but also build connections, gain support, and realize their potential for success.

 

 

Closing Ceremony in Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa School of Foreign Languages: Celebration of achievements, student presentations, certificates of participation and reflections on personal growth and learning.
