Journey of the Olive: From Tree to Table' Stem project

Journey of the Olive: From Tree to Table" is an eTwinning project designed to spark curiosity about agriculture, sustainability, and healthy eating among primary school students (ages 5–11). Through hands-on activities like visiting olive groves, pressing olives to make oil, and creating art with olive leaves and stones, students will explore the cultural and scientific importance of the olive. While collaborating with peers in Europe and beyond, they will discover how this ancient tree connects history, science, and our daily lives. By using real-world tools such as measuring scales, microscopes, and simple engineering models, pupils will record growth data, experiment with preservation methods, and share their results through digital posters, videos, and storybooks. This project blends STEM, creativity, and cultural heritage to show young learners that caring for our food sources is a responsibility we all share. This project offers a unique chance to connect classrooms across Europe while addressing sustainability and food heritage education. Students will gain authentic experiences—interviewing local farmers, designing eco-friendly packaging for olive products, and video-calling European partners to compare traditional harvesting methods. Together, they will produce tangible outputs like a "Green Pledge" digital campaign, a mini-exhibition of recycled olive-themed crafts, and a collaborative “Olive Recipe Book,” fostering pride in their role as future guardians of both culture and nature. Perfect for teachers seeking interdisciplinary, action-based learning with a global twist!
