Short description

International project about conducting experiments in Science classes (Chemistry, Physics).

Students will make experiments, explain them, film them, describe them, and therefore become experts in Science.

Aims

Students will every month work on a theme that will lead to an experiment by which they will prove/disprove their hypothesis. If proven, they'll need to make explanations, and descriptions, and make videos of making, describing, and explaining the experiments - and uploading the video to the web (YouTube). If disproven, they'll need to make a new hypothesis and continue with the experiment.

After all the experimenting, we will have a huge database of interesting science experiments.

Students will be mixed into international groups - depending on how many students would be interested in this project.

The main aim of the project is the popularization of Science and scientific thinking among young people who are to continue their educational path.

Work process

September & October

- founders gather all partners and organize a video meeting; teachers agree on further activities and add this project to their curriculum; Teachers talk about a set of possible experiments they will teach their students how to conduct or a set of problems for students to explore

- teachers add students to twinspace, making it possible for students to meet virtually and write or record something to present themselves; Internet safety rules are presented to partners and students; teachers gather parental consent for students' participation in the project; teachers motivate their students to make logo proposals and Greeting cards for their partners to congratulate World Science Day

November & December

- students fill out a survey and choose the best logo; teachers motivate their students to celebrate World Science Day with the theme ‘Global Science for Global Wellbeing’ on 10th November; students are grouped according to their age and abilities to explore the theme their teachers gave them

- teachers help students with their exploration and conduct of experiments (writing, filming, uploading, etc.) and teachers upload all materials to twinspace; teachers motivate students to prepare experiments for the STEM Evening* - teachers gather the necessary equipment for experiments

January - teachers and students make the last preparations for the STEM Evening and organize it in their schools (19th January) / Teachers motivate their coworkers and other students (who are not involved in this project) to join them in preparing, organizing, and conducting the STEM Evening; teachers take videos and photos of the STEM Evening and upload all materials to twinspace; teachers motivate students to prepare themselves for the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (11th February) to celebrate that Day with different activities.

February - students and teachers celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (take photos, videos, upload all that with materials to twinspace); teachers once more group their students and give them tasks and problems they need to explore; students communicate with their peers from other countries

March - students work on their tasks; teachers arrange everything on twinspace (if they missed something to do); teachers are planning STEM field trips for their students they will conduct in a period from March till May

April - teachers help students with their exploration and conduct of experiments (writing, filming, uploading, etc.) and teachers upload all materials to twinspace; teachers and students go on field trips (they take photos, and videos, and upload everything on twinspace)

May - teachers organize an event in their schools to celebrate the Day of eTwinning (Day of EU, 9th May) - through that celebration, they will (with their students) present this project to all other students and teachers in school (they'll organize filming of the event, and upload all to twinspace); founder of the project organize evaluation surveys for students and other for teachers about this project and conduct it among all students and partners

During the project, all teachers need to disseminate the project in their schools, in the local communities, at various county or state seminars, in local newspapers, or even in professional literature.

*STEM Evening is a public event (invented by High school Novska) through which teachers of the STEM field organize students to work at different points where they perform experiments in front of visitors (visitors can be kindergarteners, elementary school students, parents, high school students, teachers, ...) - students explain the experiments to visitors. Visitors go from one point to another and amuse themselves.

Through this kind of public event, we popularize Science and motivate the young to continue their education in STEM fields.

Expected results

We plan to have a public TwinSpace - that is, all parts of it that will not violate anyone's privacy in accordance with GDPR and signed consent.

We plan to have a huge database of interesting science experiments that we will put together in an e-book that will be published publicly.
