OUR PROJECT (description, aims, results)
SHORT DESCRIPTION
Climate change, wildfires, microplastics, habitat loss are only a few of the problems societies have to face and what is of utmost importance is to educate young people to act as responsible citizens, respect the environment and maintain balance for future generations.
EnviEra is an environmental project that aims at addressing several regional and international issues, which will be investigated into and handled appropriately to instill the values of environmental awareness in participants, and provide partner schools with tangible results to be included in the EFL curriculum.
The collaborating partner schools are from Camarles (SP), Câmpulung Moldovenesc (RO) and Koropi (GR) and have joined this project to pursue the best results for their school communities aspiring for a better future in an era when environmental challenges may cause people’s relocation or even friction between alliances.
AIMS
The overall objectives for our project include gaining experience, exchanging ideas and learning from peers using English as a foreign language, while at the same time strengthening participants’ European identity and active citizenship.
EnviEra aspires to enhance environmental consciousness in the school community addressing everyday challenges, inspiring participants to opt for the best solution when it comes to decision making regarding climate change and renewable energy options.
Our project aims at increasing cross-cultural awareness to enhance personal and social skills and help participants enhance their sense of European citizenship when it comes to handling problems that affect all of us. Not only will students develop key competences, such as foreign language skills (English will be the project language) and critical thinking, but also learn and practise digital skills; in addition, they will be given the chance to benefit from group-work learning and expressing through art.
EXPECTED RESULTS
By the end of the project participants will have realized the impact of climate change on the environment and human societies and will have acquired the necessary knowledge to deal with everyday situations relative to their carbon footprint. They will produce a handbook with guidelines for a responsible ‘green’ citizen, a step-to-step procedure to facilitate the environmental attitude change; at school, and will use the educational material produced to ‘teach’ their peers how to be more sustainable. All project results will be disseminated in the partner schools’ communities, on the school websites, social media and posters will be in display at schoolgrounds. The evaluation of the project will be done in introductory, interim and final steps and the results will be shared in TwinSpace.
