DIGGING OUT TRADITIONS

Tradition is defined as 'an inherited, established, or customary pattern of thought, action, or behavior (such as a religious practice or a social custom)' (Merriam Webster Dictionary) However, traditions change rapidly in our contemprary world as a parallel to fast developing technology. For example, in the past, people used to send postcards to celebrate each other's birthdays and religious festivals but now post cards are replaced by text messages on our mobile phones. Thus, new generations do not know about the past traditions. In this project we aim at digging out the forgotten traditions and the reasons why, how and who changed them. The project will provide students with understanding the cultural and historical dynamics that affected the way people practise the traditions. It will also enable them to compare and contrast their own traditions with their foreign partners.
