World Water Day is celebrated annually on March 22.

The decision to establish this holiday was taken at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro, on December 22, 1992. 

In Romania, this day has been celebrated since 1993.

The celebration of World Water Day aims to bring to the attention of public opinion the issues related to the need to protect the quantity and quality of water and to shed light on the role, duties and responsibilities of those responsible for the maintenance, use and protection of water sources.
