The Alimentation in the Roman Era

Among the topics taken into account in this project we can mention: alimentation, chemistry, history of roman age, literature in Roman Age. Lunch, dinner and breakfast chanted the diet of the ancient Roman Empire. The size of the individual meals was changing depending on the historical period, social status, and depending on whether it was in an urban or rural environment. Until the end of the republican power of the Romans was characterized by its frugality, then they are actually enacted sumptuary laws to limit expenditure per capita at dinners. At breakfast, the consumption of wine to accompany olives, eggs and cheese, and children receiving cow's milk or goat's milk along with briosches sweet and savory, the prantium consisted of a snack brought from home or purchased on the street from street vendors or in public places. The dinner was the most important meal of the duration of which is extremely variable, linked as it was to individual preferences of guests, its budget and the consequent flow of wealth and entertainment that plays the banquet. The guests attended the banquet with the cool and comfortable clothes that allowed them to stay comfortably lying on the beds where triclinari ate their food with their hands. At the end of the evening the guests - who were allowed to take home the leftovers from dinner - were welcomed with a small gift in memory of the evening. By means of the eTwinning platform, we have opportunity to talk to European partners in order to see not only our theoretical knowledge but also to compare what we kept from Romans in our traditions.
