John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (/ˈtɒlkn/) (1892 –1973) was an English writer. He was the author of the high fantasy works The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. This has caused him to be popularly identified as the "father" of modern fantasy literature.

To carry out this activity, follow the steps:

1. Write the names of the members of your group in one of the columns on this padlet.

2. Carry out some research about this historical event using the websites suggested below and write down the most relevant and interesting elements in your team's collaborative pad (links to the teams' pads on the padlet). Choose an angle for your research: are you going to look into:

- Tolkien's life and legacy?

- The Hobbit?

- The Lord of The Rings?

- the genre of high fantasy?

- ...

Tell your team partners in the forum what aspect you'd like to work on and try and agree on an angle for your research (one team = one angle = one game).

Selection of websites to get started:

https://kids.britannica.com/kids/article/JRR-Tolkien/390059

https://kids.kiddle.co/J._R._R._Tolkien

https://academickids.com/encyclopedia/index.php/High_fantasy

3. Use this information to create a game or quiz together as a team (one team = one game).

a) For this you will need first to discuss in theforumand agree on a type of game and a tool. All games must be different, so once you've agreed on a tool, write it down on the padlet - the other teams will have to pick another game!

b). Use your team's collaborative pad as the draft for your game (prepare the questions or clues + the answers) then you will copy and paste onto the chosen tool.

Your teachers will give you a common login and password for the tools, please do not  create a personal account.

Games you can create (pick and choose):

- any of the apps suggested on learningapps: login: etw_trip2023 / password: trip2023

- any of the apps suggested on flippity.net/

- a quiz on Kahoot or digistorm

- a quiz "Who wants to be a millionaire?" on https://www.superteachertools.us/millionaire/

- - a game on https://classtools.net/

4. Post the link to your team's game(s) onto this padlet, in the appropriate column. All the games created will be put together in order to create a single "escape room" game.

5. Your team will test the games created by the other teams to check if they work and suggest edits and improvements (or just congratulate each other ;-)) - GO TO PAGE 10.2.

6. Eventually the final production about Tolkien will be added to the Felt Map in corresponding place (Bournemouth, Hampshire, England).
