Open schooling: reaching out to your local community The group is a space open to eTwinners who want to open classrooms to the local community. Open schooling can transform our schools in innovative systems in which students, teachers and all the local community share responsibilities, grow up together and develop active and responsible citizenship. Summer Planning for International and Community-Oriented Schooling

As the school year winds down, summer offers a precious opportunity—not just for rest, but for reflection and strategic planning. This is the ideal time to redesign the school framework with a more international and locally engaged perspective.

By thoughtfully planning activities and partnerships during the summer break, schools can open up to their local communities and institutions, while fostering a European and global mindset. An “open school” isn’t just a place of learning—it becomes a hub of cultural exchange, civic engagement, and meaningful education.

Let’s use this time to:

Create synergies with local cultural, civic, and educational partners

Integrate international projects into the school’s long-term vision

Make teaching and learning more relevant, inclusive, and impactful

Together, we can shape schools that are not only connected to Europe, but rooted in their communities.

Let’s plan now for a stronger, more open, and globally aware school year ahead!

Open mind experiences

Dear colleagues,

These days, across Europe, many schools are celebrating Europe Day with various events aimed at sharing adn dissemintating theris European practivies. These public initiatives often involve local authorities and citizens, creating an excellent opportunity to build relationships and start new collaborations.

During one of these events, where I was involves, in a small town in Northern Italy, it was shared that the municipality regularly hosts citizens and guys, from irs twin town in Austria - an inspiring example of local-level Erasmus in action! On that occasion, the school principal invited the mayor to officialy welcome a group of students from Greenland who will soon be visiting the school.

What better opportunity to learn-through comparison-how local institutions function in different countries, and to promote intercultural dialogue through real-world experiences?

Looking forward to hearing about your experiences too!
