Rural Schools under Focus: case studies on innovative practices

The publication includes research findings based on 19 case studies from 11 countries across Europe to share innovative practices undertaken at school level in rural contexts.
EUN report Rural Schools cover

Through the case studies, the report explores the state of play in rural and small-town education. The content is based on surveys and interviews conducted with teachers and school leaders in rural and remote areas and small towns. Four areas are explored:

  • Leadership and management in small rural schools,
  • Alliances with parents and the local community for innovation in the school system,
  • Pedagogical and teaching practices: space and time organisation and classroom management,
  • ICT for remote teaching and distance learning.

Following the comparative analysis, the publication identifies a set of challenges and opportunities and puts forward a number of recommendations for policymakers, school leaders and teachers.
