Children's voices on democracy and voting survey – results

An online survey was created to gather children’s and teenagers’ perspectives on democratic participation, including what they think works well, the changes they wish to see and their personal experiences. In addition, 31 children took part in interviews and 122 in focus groups, to ensure that diverse voices and experiences were represented.
Children and teenagers expressed a desire for:
- Safe and inclusive places to participate and be heard.
- A bigger role in influencing decisions that directly affect their lives.
- More information about democracy, how it works and how to get involved.
- Encouragement to participate in discussions and decision-making.
- Learning more about voting and gaining knowledge to help them make their own voting decisions.
All participants agreed that education is an important factor for making democratic choices and asked for more support, training and awareness-raising to help them become more informed and engaged citizens.
The full report is available in English and the summary report in all EU languages.
