I Am a Champion: a campaign by the Jordan NSO to “get students moving”

Starting from March 2020, children’s lives were limited to the confines of their home, and freedoms formerly taken for granted – such as staying active – became daunting tasks. Madrasati (Jordan’s National Support Organisation) addressed our topic for August by launching a campaign to help children “get moving” and restore their physique and fitness before they head back to school.

Nowadays, keeping children active requires a little more creativity! That is why Madrasati launched its “I Am a Champion” campaign #HealthyAtHome in August 2021. The campaign saw children tackle five activities and five challenges over a ten-day course. With the help of prominent local figures, teachers and other stakeholders, a ten-minute daily activity schedule was developed.

Over the course of ten days, Madrasati, along with ten partners, published a daily link including the “Activity of the Day” along with instructions for the next day’s challenge. The activities covered five different sports, some of which were new to the children, including aerobics, football, taekwondo, running and power yoga. The videos were published via Madrasati’s social media and shared with teachers and principals through its WhatsApp groups.

In some of the challenges, children were encouraged to involve three family members, friends, and/or local community members. The goal was to reinforce positive practices among the people children care about, and thereby encourage them to be active as well, especially considering the social benefits of group sports.

To further encourage children’s participation, each child who participated in the challenge was awarded a prize: a CHAMPION badge with the child’s name, which could be accessed by pasting the link to a one- to two-minute video on an electronic wall created for the campaign, or by sending the video to their teacher.
