Celebrating of 20 years of eTwinning with National Support Organisations

eTwinning officially marked its 20th anniversary on 14 January 2025, and we celebrated with the National Support Organisations (NSOs) during the annual NSO coordination meeting on 4 February.
Many eTwinning countries have already organised national activities to celebrate 20 years of eTwinning adventures. Read more about them below, and stay tuned for news about NSO events marking this milestone as they are planned and celebrated throughout the year.
Local and national celebrations
- Greece hosted an online event on 20 January, with 1,470 pupils and over 100 teachers. A second event on 21 January featured special guests, ambassadors and past NSO members, streamed live on the Hellenic eTwinning YouTube channel. The event also produced a collaborative Padlet and a song.
- Spain highlighted the impact of eTwinning in transforming European education, celebrating the 65,000 Spanish teachers and 14,000 Spanish schools that have taken part in 36,500 collaborative projects. The Spanish NSO prepared a pupil-friendly cocktail with ingredients to represent eTwinning’s core values: collaboration, inclusion, democracy, sustainability and innovation.
- Austria launched a virtual quiz contest from 13-24 January, where participants answered eTwinning-related questions to ‘blow out the candles’ on a virtual cake.
- Ireland held an in-person celebration at the NSO offices in Dublin, reflecting on the programme’s achievements and sharing memories from long-standing ambassadors.
- A notable event from France was in Guadeloupe, where teachers organised interactive workshops, including sports, art and memory games, along with a storytelling session and collectively singing ‘Happy Birthday’.
- Slovakia prepared eTwinning Quest 20, a board game (available in English) with questions about eTwinning and European countries.
- Finally, Latvia held a lovely event during which the NSO and teachers shared stories and memories with current and past ambassadors, past NSOs and even some of the people who were in Brussels for the original launch of the eTwinning project in January 2005.
Here’s to another 20 years of collaboration!
