Geniko Lykeio (GEL) Diapolitismikis Ekpaidevsis Evosmou, is a Senior High School of Intercultural education. It is situated in western Thessaloniki (Northern Greece), which is considered as an urban area.
The school was founded in 2002. The staff is highly qualified and is appointed to the school under specific legislation requiring MA, PhD and foreign language studies. The school hosts 350 students and 33 teachers. A high proportion of 80-85% of the graduates continue their studies in Universities and Technical Schools. There are 20 immigrant students belonging to ethnic (Syria, Afghanistan, Iran, Irak), religious, linguistic minorities, as well as pupils with various cognitive difficulties, as dyslexia. There are facilities for students with disabilities. Each school year various innovative extracurricular projects (Erasmus+, eΤwinning, environmental, health, career) are implemented to motivate the students. The school requires students and teachers to gain motivation so contests and events are also organized (Model of United Nations, European Youth Parliament, Science Parliament, Science Olympiads, Debate contests, Volunteering). The school cooperates with the local municipal community and the local church community. University students of various faculties perform their practice in the school.
