About

Who are we?

79 „Indira Gandhi” Secondary School is a comprehensive school in Sofia, Bulgaria, where about 900 students from 1st to 12th grade /6 – 19 years old/ take different classes, with foreign languages and IT major. During its 40-years history our school was the first in Bulgaria to introduce IT as a school subject. We still follow this tradition and further develop it by introducing new elements and innovations. We are planning to introduce Visual Programming for 1st graders.

The school is named after the prominent Indian leader Indira Gandhi and it has a long history in cooperation with schools in India and the Indian embassy in Bulgaria. We are the only school in Bulgaria teaching Hindi as a foreign language.

Over thirty students are with special educational needs. Most of them attend regular classes, some are taught individually and teachers from the resource center work with them on a regular basis. There are about 70 teachers in the school. .

The school is located in a district of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria - Lyulin. This district is the largest residential area of the city. Some of the students are of different social and backgrounds.
