Zero waste recipe book

Support :

Bookcreator : https://app.bookcreator.com/library/-ODrLXHrFEKG4Z-j-3Km (code : DMJ9SC5)

Each class will have to write the recipes for a menu using mainly few ingredients (mainly local products) so there is no waste and recipes that show us how to make food from leftovers. The project encourages teamwork, creativity, and awareness of sustainable cooking.

Introduction of activity to students:

  • What is food waste? Why is it important to minimize food waste?
  • What are leftover-based recipes?
  • How can we create meals with a few ingredients to avoid waste?

In this menu, there must be 3 recipes : a starter, main course and dessert.

Students write down the chosen recipe with :

  • Title
  • Ingredients required.
  • Clear, simple steps (maximum 5 steps).

Challenge : Use different parts of a product in each recipe, so as not to throw anything away (for example: a vegetable for a dish and its leaves for another one)

One class writes the recipe, another illustrates it, and a third records reflections (feedback, suggestions,...) about the recipe, so that the book is truly collaborative :

  • Recipe written by Manresa, illustrated by Karditsa, and reflections recorded by Pluvault.
  • Recipe written by Zadar, illustrated by Helioupolis, and reflections recorded by Montpellier.
  • Recipe written by Helioupolis, illustrated by Pluvault, and reflections recorded by Zadar.
  • Recipe written by Karditsa, illustrated by Montpellier, and reflections recorded by Manresa.
  • Recipe written by Pluvault, illustrated by Manresa, and reflections recorded by Karditsa.
  • Recipe written by Montpellier, illustrated by Zadar, and reflections recorded by Helioupolis.

(These instructions are repeated on the Bookcreator).

The book can also include sections on food waste facts, tips for sustainable cooking, and the importance of using leftovers.

It would be great if some recipes were tested by students at home or at school (when possible).

At the end: meeting and sharing the book with parents (pdf)

Share the finished recipe book with the wider community :

  • Organize a virtual meeting where teams present their recipes and discuss what they learned about reducing food waste.
  • Share the recipe book online with parents, friends, and the school community. Consider making it available as a downloadable PDF or publish it on the school’s website or a blog.

ENJOY YOUR MEAL :-)

Pupils of OŠ Petra Preradovića

These are some of the recipes the pupils of Osnovna škola Petra Preradovića wrote. They really enjoyed searching for recipes using left over food and making something new and delicious.
