Parents’ Briefcase – La Mallette des parents

The Parents’ Briefcase (La Mallette des parents) is an ongoing programme which has run since 2008, aiming to involve parents more in their children’s education. It is run by the Académie de Creteil, under the direct authority of France’s Ministry for Education and is currently running in 80 schools in France.

The programme was set up to improve relations between parents and teachers and to help parents understand more about how their child is taught so that they can contribute to their child’s success at school. The programme’s goal is to strengthen cooperation between schoolteachers and parents. This is achieved through regular meetings with parents at school and an online platform which includes guidance materials for teachers to develop cooperation with parents so they can better support their children at school. There are three meetings per year, while the online resources for parents and teachers can be accessed at all times. The results of the programme have shown significant change in parents’ behaviour and involvement in children’s education at home.
