eTwinning School label

eTwinning Schools are leaders in the eTwinning world. Their school management and teacher leaders recognise the importance and values of eTwinning and embed it in their school’s policies, practices and professional development.

What is the eTwinning School label?

The eTwinning School label recognises and appraises the involvement, commitment and dedication not just of individual eTwinners, but of a whole school, where teams of teachers and school leaders work together. The eTwinning School mission statement emphasises the following elements:

  • Shared leadership
  • Collaboration and teamwork
  • Student agency
  • Inclusion and innovation
  • Being a role model for other schools.

What are the benefits of being an eTwinning School?

eTwinning Schools are officially recognised at European level as role models for eTwinning and form a network of leading schools to inspire the future development of eTwinning. All eTwinning Schools receive a kit, which includes a plaque and a flag.

eTwinning schools are highly visible at European level and are encouraged to display their eTwinning School label in promotional and informative materials. They are also part of a dedicated eTwinning online group where they can share good practices and collaborate. In addition, they are invited to participate in dedicated professional development courses and online events.

How can my school get the eTwinning School label?

Schools are pre-selected for the eTwinning School label if they:

  • have been registered in eTwinning for more than two years,
  • have at least three teachers who have been involved in eTwinning projects, professional development or other eTwinning activities in the last two years,
  • were involved in at least one eTwinning European project that was awarded a National Quality Label within the two years before the application date.

If a school fulfils all these requirements, registered eTwinners in the school receive an email at the beginning of each calendar year inviting them to complete an application form through the European School Education Platform.

Eligible schools must complete an application form to describe how their school designs, implements and plans activities related to the eTwinning School mission, along with supporting evidence.

The National Support Organisations (NSO) analyse the description and the evidence provided with each application and assess each school's activities and potential.

Schools that are rejected by the NSO can resubmit their application – with better descriptions and evidence – up until the deadline.

The exact timeframe for the submission and evaluation periods is published on the platform a few weeks before the application procedure is launched.

What information is needed in the application?

The eTwinning School application form should be submitted by one person. However, the school principal and any colleagues engaged in eTwinning should be involved in drafting it. Each school can only submit one application.
Schools must answer all the questions in the application form and provide evidence when requested.

The first question is related to the school's e-safety policy, for which they are requested to provide evidence. The other questions include a set of statements for each of the aspects of the eTwinning School mission. Applicants must describe how their school implements them and provide evidence. For each of these statements, applicants also have to describe what the school plans to do in the next two years, if they were to receive the eTwinning School label.

Applications should be complemented with a declaration signed by the school principal.

The form doesn’t have to be completed in one session, as it can be saved in draft form. Only click on the submit button when the form is finished.
