Description
Building on key aspects identified in our report for the EU Commission on bullying prevention in schools, this presentation examined the range of competences a teacher needs to prevent and intervene in school bullying situations. This included the need for a whole school system focus, engagement with parents, as well as whole class and individual strategies. Different motivations underlying bullying were also recognised. The strengths and weaknesses of some current approaches for bullying prevention were highlighted, with a view to clarifying what not to do in a bullying situation. Teachers' communicative strategies and relational spaces in school were focused on.
