European award for Initial Teacher Education
What is the European award for Initial Teacher Education?
The European award for Initial Teacher Education (ITE) started in 2022 with the aim of celebrating the most active initial teacher education institutions in eTwinning. The award identifies, celebrates and promotes the work and activities that the institution has completed in three main areas: curriculum integration, project implementation and research outputs.
How can apply I for the award?
To apply for the European ITE award, you should be a teacher educator/university professor, and you must be registered and validated by eTwinning.
You can request an application form from your National Support Organisation at any time, and it will explain what kind of information and evidence will be needed.
Once you're ready to apply, you should take the following steps.
- Login to the European School Education Platform, click on 'My profile' under your name, on the top right of the screen and then click on the name of your affiliated organisation.
- Select 'Members' to see all the teacher educators in your institution. Decide among yourselves who is going to apply and submit the entry as only one person per institution can submit an entry.
- Discuss with your colleagues what to write and fill in the application form. The information submitted should be concise and clear. You can save your draft application and continue it at a later stage.
- You should also provide and upload, via the form, an endorsement of your application by an official representative from your ITE institution.
Please note, your application must refer to activities and outputs completed by the teacher educators of the ITE institution within the last two academic years, from September to May (e.g. from September 2022 until May 2024).
To be eligible, you must be sure to submit the application form before the announced deadline.
Why should I apply for the European ITE award?
Winners of the European award for Initial Teacher Education receive:
- an award plaque for their Initial Teacher Education institution;
- award certificates for the teacher educators who participated in eTwinning;
- a digital badge and a website banner which can be published on the ITE institution's website.
Winners are also invited to take part in the award ceremony which takes place during the European conference for Initial Teacher Education.
In addition, we will also promote the award winner on the European School Education Platform, with an article about the teacher educators, student teachers and the institution, together with a video featuring the winning ITE institution.
