- Practical Workshops on Language Teaching & 21st Century Skills for Learning English
- Creative Activities & Motivating Tasks for secondary school students (aged 11-19) and for adult learners.
- The workshops will explore a wide range of teaching ideas and activities designed to challenge and motivate students and make language lessons more enjoyable and worthwhile.
- Some or all of the following will be included:
- a variety of motivating activities which engage students’ imaginations and creativity - innovative role play and drama activities, use of multimedia, poetry, stories, writing and songs
- using technology
- inclusive language teaching & mixed ability classes
- dealing with large classes
- designing motivating learning tasks for in and out of class learning
- maintaining teacher and student motivation
- the changing role of the teacher
- teaching & learning collaboratively
- cross-curricular projects
- developing the four skills – integrated task design
- grammar & lexical chunking
- evaluation and assessment for learning
- rethinking feedback, marking and correction
- issues in language learning
- English Language change
- relevance of World Englishes and ELF (English as a Lingua Franca) to the language classroom
- Digital and other resources will be shared and created together with participants and the trainer will provide a bank of useful websites and reference materials for further professional development.
- Lecture on the Irish Education System
- Visit to a secondary school with an opportunity to observe lessons
- Advanced Language Practice
- Lecture on Irish History, Culture & Traditions
- Workshop on Modern Irish Theatre or James Joyce
- Overview of Irish Literature at MoLI (Museum of Literature Ireland)
- Social History of Dublin Life at 14 Henrietta Street
- Visit to Wicklow Mountains National Park
- Walking tour of Dublin and cultural visits
- Learning time: 25+ hours per week
Learning objectives
The course aims to give participants the opportunity to:
- revisit and explore the principles and practices involved in 21st century language learning and teaching pedagogy and methodologies
- gain new ideas & materials for teaching English as a Foreign Language
- develop their understanding and awareness of contemporary written and spoken English, including English as an international language of communication
- learn more about the Irish Education System
- develop professional connections and professional interchange with other European language teachers
Methodology & assessment
- Courses are delivered by education professionals with many years’ experience of teaching and training EU-funded teachers and a wealth of exciting ideas to impart
- Practical workshops are tailored to the participants’ training needs
- Teachers will be encouraged to share their own ideas and experiences and to participate in and reflect on learning and tasks designed for secondary school students and adult language learners.
- Collaborative working
- Feedback and guidance from trainers
- At the end of the course teachers participate in a detailed evaluation of the course
- Practical workshops are tailored to the participants’ training needs
- Teachers will be encouraged to share their own ideas and experiences and to participate in and reflect on learning and tasks designed for secondary school students and adult language learners.

Certification details
- A certificate of attendance (stating course title, location, dates, content, learning outcomes and number of hours) will be provided as required by the Quality standards for courses under Key Action 1
- Erasmus+ documentation will be validated
- Teachers will be provided with advice on how to complete their Learning Agreements if requested
