About the DigiEduHack initiative

The Digital Education Hackathon (DigiEduHack) is an EU initiative that aims to encourage grassroots innovation, collaboration and creativity and to drive positive change in digital education. The event consists of a series of 24-hour hackathons held over ten days, taking place in Europe and beyond.

Launched in 2019, the initiative is an important part of the Digital Education Action Plan 2021-2027, and also contributes to the objectives of the European Digital Education Hub. This year’s edition takes place on 7-16 November 2025, under the theme ‘Rethinking education in the age of digital skills’.

How to participate

Everyone can join DigiEduHack, either by hosting a hackathon or participating in a challenge.

Any organisation, including schools, universities, NGOs and start-ups, can host a hackathon online, in-person or hybrid. Interested organisations may choose hackathon topics starting from one of the eight challenge categories

  • access and availability: ensuring equitable access to AI-powered learning tools
  • learning spaces and pedagogies: designing effective hybrid learning environments
  • the learning experience: verifying and motivating learners through engaging methods
  • individual competences: building digital literacy
  • organisational capability: AI-driven educator training
  • wellbeing in digital education: balancing screen time and mental health
  • emerging technologies for education: metaverse and virtual reality
  • data-driven education: from learning data to actionable insights

Hosts have access to various practical resources, including a host guide, coaching calls, a sponsorship package and more.

Participants, including tech experts, learners, teachers or anyone with an interest in digital education, can explore the interactive map of published hackathons and the available support tools (e.g. participant guide, pitching templates, FAQs).

Remember to register as a host or participant by 20 October 2025 at the latest
