Scaffolding Thinking Skills in CLIL

The course introduces the essential features of CLIL and focuses on the role of scaffolding in CLIL, scaffolding strategies in general and strategies for scaffolding (supporting) students' thinking skills in particular.
The course will allow participants to explore cognition, meta-cognition / thinking skills and reflect on their classroom practice. Participants will develop new ideas & materials

Description

The course is highly interactive.  Course activities are based on a pre-course participant needs analysis and aim to model best CLIL teacher education practices. 

 

The working language is English. Materials are in English but participants have included people using other CLIL languages. When several participants share a language other than English, they are welcome to use that language in working with and supporting each other.

 

The course facilitators have hands-on experience in CLIL and in CLIL professional development.

•    ability to apply key CLIL & scaffolding strategies in own classroom practice,
•    have opportunities to reflect on and discuss their own practices.
•    network, develop and share ideas with other participants. 

Methodology & assessment

Course activities are based on best teacher education practice: they are highly interactive. This includes mini lectures on key concepts, pair and group work, independent study, field work, experiential learning / learning by doing.
In daily online reviews participants will assess the course activities and their progress. This will guide the facilitators throughout the week. Peer assessment of activity products and group reflection will be used.

Materials, digital tools & other learning resources

Course materials will be shared with participants in physical format during the course and will be available to participants online during and after the course. Some common digital tools will be used in e.g. pre-course survey & needs analysis before the course and frequently during the course.

Certification details

Certificates will include the course title, number of hours (30) and key contents / objectives and they are awarded to all on the last day of the course.  Europass certificates will be issued on request.

    The course fee covers tuition and materials as well tutoring / mentoring before, during and after the course as well as administrative costs and issuing the course certificates.

  • Cancellation & changes:

    After registering online (completing the pre-course survey) and confirming participation by responding to an email from the course provider, the participant is expected to attend the course and responsible to paying the course fee. The invoices will be sent c. 7 weeks before the course starts. In case of illness or other unforeseen circumstances, the course fee can either be transferred to another person from the same project or returned to the payee with a deduction of 50€.

    The options and conditions for change and cancellation, and the policy in case of unforeseen circumstances (force majeure).
