Description

As all of the people involved in Erasmus + program known, there are three basics kind of learning approaches, formal, non-formal and informal. Learnings approaches that we can manage and schedule are formal and non-formal.

One of the challenges of formal education is to keep the motivation and the attention of the students into the lessons, and as we can see in some studies about non-formal approaches, the non-formal learning bring sources of motivation to the participants since these activities will use:

-Bidirectional learning: When a student can influence in the topic dealt with his/her experience we have a huge increment of the participation.

-Reflexion of the learning process: Since all the non-formal learning need a reflexion time, the students will appreciate the learning they achieve, so the motivation of keep learning in the topic worked will be more than if we just use formal learning.

-Tangible results: Another aspect of non-formal education is the creation of tangible results such presentations, things, posters, etc.

With this all we can have the conclusion that non formal education can help to formal education teachers as way to keep the attention and motivation, to deal with some topics that are important in a classroom and develop the creativity and other competences of the students. Of course we know that schools has a curriculum to compliment, and this curriculum need to be done with formal education, but some little sessions (like once peer week) can help a lot in the engagement of the students.

In this course we propose to teach you the basics to use fine arts as a tool to work with your students using non-formal approaches!

Learning objectives

With this course we will train the teachers in the use of art components and artistic tools in order to make them able to use artistic methods based in non-formal education approaches. Our idea is bringing tools and competences to the teachers to use these tools to deal with some topics, issues and subjects, helping them to increase and keep the motivation of the students in these matters.

Trainees will be equipped with tools will help them to explain their students concepts as: the comfort zone in learning processes and how art can help students to go out of their comfort zone, help students to identify and accept themselves and others with artistic tools (less intrusive approach to use with kids and teenagers), art as a tool of planning, evaluation, identification of needs and time management, art as a communication tool among students and teachers, and way more useful tools and artistic approaches that you will be able to apply in your lessons!
