Environmental education is a pedagogical approach that aims to promote knowledge, awareness and practical actions related to the environment. Erasmus Outdoor Learning in a Funny Way aims to develop a deeper understanding of the interactions between humans and the natural environment, as well as to foster the responsibility and involvement of individuals in the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources.

In this context, outdoor education plays an important role in environmental education. The Eramus project has promoted educational activities outside the traditional classroom environment, in places such as forests, beaches, parks and other natural areas. This approach allowed students to have direct experiences with nature, experiencing it in a more immersive and interactive way the learning done in the classroom.

Different lectures were developed in which the adoption of outdoor teaching by environmental education was highlighted. It was highlighted to students the opportunity to observe and explore natural ecosystems, learn about biodiversity, understand ecological processes and understand environmental issues in a more tangible way. After these lectures, the students had the opportunity to concretise the learning when they participated in practical activities such as trails, field studies, environmental monitoring and environmental conservation projects.

The speakers aroused the students' interest and curiosity about the experience of being in nature, connecting with it and above all motivating them to adopt more responsible behaviour towards the environment.

However, it was stressed that learning outside the classroom complements but does not replace the classroom environment. Both approaches are complementary.

The lectures developed in partner schools under the Erasmus Outdoor Learning in a Funny Way project, in partnership with local institutions, stand out:

  • On May 16, the lecture "Climate change: an inconvenient truth" was held, promoted by the Esposende Environmental Education Centre.

  • Students from Escola Básica António Correia de Oliveira attended the online lecture "Last call: H20 with weight and measurement", promoted by the Association DecoJovem. In this activity, the school community were alerted to the responsibility of each person in the use of water in their daily lives. It was also alerted to the need to pay attention to the water courses that surround us and the way they change due to environmental and human factors. Also, it was exposed the percentage that can be used by human beings, the amount of water used in the production of different products and in certain behaviors and strategies for saving water. Finally, it was stressed that it never hurts to draw attention to the urgency of the sustainable use of water, having been a very positive learning moment and put into practice in activities such as field trips.

On the other hand, it increases the decrease in the exploitation of natural resources as well as the raw materials derived from the.
