Mind the map!

Pupils use a photo of a normal map of their city to prepare an interactive map of their town with the digital tool thinglink. Clicking on the map it's possible to discover the interesting places of the town. Students learn more about their town and discover that of their EU mates: they get to know each other also through this activity. Students talk about their city and way of life and exchange information. The students all together create a final product together. The final shared product will be for example: an e-book using a web tool like issuu / an itinerary to link each city using emaze or other digital tools / a competition, an interactive quiz game (a kahoot about the various places in the maps) with a winner... The project aims: to develop a sense of orientation and symbolic representation; to improve their skills in research information about the sites of their city they decide to talk about; to develop awareness and respect about their cultural heritage and identity and at the same time a sense of European social identity; to stimulate in students the curiosity and the interest in other places in Europe, learning about different cultures and ways of life; to enhance the collaboration among students: they exchange their maps and decide together which kind of final product they can make all together in a collaborative way; to facilitate students' creativity: they will create videos, take photos or make drawings to depict some places, using digital tools. to improve students’ ICT and foreign language skills. The expected results are: Implementation of a real collaboration among schools by creating maps and a final product together / Improvement of students’ creativity: writing, art skills. / Improvement of students’ ICT and foreign language skills. / Acknowledgement of different ways of life and cultural heritage in Europe. / Improvement of the geographical knowledge about Europe and awareness of common features and historical facts. / Improvement of students’ curiosity: they will be more motivated to travel and discover new places and cultures.
