Volos / Greece - the deportation memorial

Not far from the municipality there is a park with statues. The smallest one is at one side of the park, near a crossroad with a traffic light. Cars and pedestrians pass. Pass this heartbreaking memorial.
But what is it about?
There is a mourning woman...
... a man who desperately tries to escape from the place where he is trapped...
... a child, astonished, a little frightened, not knowing what's going on. The child seems to look back while it is pulled away, into the stone trap...
... finally, near the base, Hebrew letters, a seven-branched candelabrum, years.
A plaque announces:
This is the place we visit at this last grey and rainy morning in Volos, learning about lifes and loss of life in very dark times in Europe.
And this is what we found out:
