Lesson plan LED Lights

This lesson plan introduces the LED light concept to 7th-grade students by tutorial videos, a mind map to organise their knowledge in and hands-on activities based on Arts and Crafts.

     Through the lesson the students:

- will understand LEDs function

- will learn to identify and draw the circuit symbol for an LED

- will understand that since an LED is a type of diode, it will only permit a current through it in one direction

- will identify the direction in which charge can flow through a diode

- will identify whether a diode in a circuit will be lit or not.

Incandescence light bulbs are extremely inefficient as less than 5% of the energy that flows through the them turns into light and the rest turn into heat. LEDs are much more energy efficient due to the components that they have inside. Moreover, they last for about 10 years when in constant usage. LEDs also provide quality light – LED lights are brighter than traditional lights. LEDs are also much more efficient in reducing the negative effects of light pollution over living organisms and astronomical studies.
