HEROES

A’ Arsakeio Tositseio Lykeio Ekalis, in Athens, Greece, Regionale Scholengemeenschap ‘t Rijks, in Bergen op Zoom, The Netherlands and Liceo Scientifico Statale Galileo Galilei, in Catania, Italy, designed the HEROES project. The aim of this project is to awaken interest in historical knowledge and develop students' critical thinking about historical events and the role of historical figures. The project is called HEROES because the students explore the concept of genuine heroism and study figures that changed the course of history in the fields of politics, society and science. They also research the difference between the real hero and the movie hero or comic book hero. First each student presents his or her individual hero. Then each national team presents five heroes from their own country and finally they design an electoral campaign with posters and slogans and vote for the representative European hero. They also construct timelines of national and European history.
