TEACHING ENGLISH WITH DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY

This practical course provides new skills and ideas for using digital technology to make English lessons more stimulating and to motivate learners.

Participants will come away with lessons and materials created on the course and with a wide variety of formats and teaching strategies to adapt and use in their classrooms.

Description

  • Workshops on Effective English Language Teaching with Digital Technology will include:
  • language teaching & assessment in the digital age; 21st century skills & digital literacies
  • technical language & skills needed for digital teaching and learning
  • ideas for making English lessons more stimulating and for motivating learners through tasks which use technology creatively in and out of class
  • exploiting and creating video and audio for learning (e.g. podcasts & vodcasts)
  • creating and evaluating on-line quizzes
  • how and why to use learner-generated multimedia content to enhance learning
  • evaluation of digital tools
  • flipped and blended learning
  • digital storytelling for effective learning
  • making an e-portfolio and multimedia digital book of work and lessons created on the course
  • micro-teaching, completing a small-scale project, ‘teach-it’ presentation to share with your colleagues at home.
  • The workshops will engage you in active learning, using a variety of formats and teaching strategies that are designed for you to adapt and use in your own language teaching classrooms, with time devoted to reflection on how to best adapt and use ideas with your learners.
 
  • As you will be working with online resources and making digital materials, you will need to bring a laptop or tablet, a smartphone and headphones.
   
  • Lecture on the Irish Education System
 
  • Visit to a school with an opportunity to observe lessons (term-time courses only)
 
  • Lecture on Irish History, Culture & Traditions
 
  • Advanced Language Practice and New Developments in the English Language
 
  • Workshop on Modern Irish Theatre
 
  • Visit to Wicklow Mountains National Park
 
  • Walking tour of Dublin and cultural visits

Learning objectives

Methodology & assessment

- Courses are delivered by education professionals with many years’ experience of teaching and training EU-funded teachers

- Practical workshops are tailored to the participants’ training needs

- Collaborative working

- Feedback and guidance from trainers

- Reflection activities to encourage participants to think critically about their teaching practice and how to make improvements

- At the end of the course teachers participate in a detailed evaluation of the course

Certification details

  • A certificate of attendance (stating course title, location, dates, content, learning outcomes and number of hours) will be provided as required by the Quality standards for courses under Key Action 1
  • Erasmus+ documentation will be validated
  • Teachers will be provided with advice on how to complete their Learning Agreements if requested
