INTRODUCING TV (AND FILM) INTO THE CLASSROOM: THE "WHY" AND THE "HOW" 10 DAYS
This course is aimed at teachers and all those who want to improve their teaching and enhance it with making use of film and cinema (including TV). The course will focus on theoretical background and practical use of films in the curriculum and teaching as well as on the opportunities for creating new teaching and learning resources through a variety of films.

Description
The course consists of 50 didactic hours and includes the following modules:
- Introduction of participants, warm ups and ice breakers, outline of the programme
- Introduction to the use of film in educational contexts (not only schools)
- Pedagogical framing of film usage
- Analytical review of how to write learning scenarios based on films
- Workshops
- Exercises and case studies
- Online and other resources for teachers
- Online tools for collaboration on projects around video production and video education, eTwinning, School Education Gateway
- Individual support
- Presentation of outcomes, discussion, evaluation and closing session
- Teambuilding and networking activities
- City tour or a cultural trip
Learning objectives
- Understand the role and shapes of media in education of the 21st century.
- Understand how film of various kinds can enhance learning in general
- Understand how the use of films engages learners in inquiry-based learning and improve learners’ self-directed learning skills.
- Understand benefits of the use of films like: developing communication, collaboration, presentation, problem solving, negotiation, critical and creative thinking skills.
- Enhancing professional skills through designing qualitative learning scenarios and plans.
- Exercise creative ideas and practical resources for successful implementation of film watching in school.
- Improve English fluency (official language of the course).
- Promote intercultural awareness.
- Develop the online collaboration platform for preparation, dissemination and networking in order to develop future partnerships and projects.
- Strengthen the European collaboration among people using the common cultural heritage of cinema.
- Provide insights into different education systems.
Methodology & assessment
Methodology is based on theoretical lessons and presentations of examples of good practice as well as discussions and experience comparisons. Participants will have the opportunity to get to know the theoretical background as well as go through a series of practical exercises in order to develop skills for use of films in their teaching (the main emphasis being on cinema films). A strong focus will be on a systematic procedure of producing good learning scenarios and lesson plans for bringing films into the classroom.
Certification details
Certificate includes the topic, dates and location of the course. We can list the record of learning outcomes on the Europass Mobility Document on request of participants.
