Description

  • Workshops on Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) Methodology: conducted by expert CLIL teacher trainers with many years of experience in training European Teachers and a wealth of exciting ideas to impart.
 
  • The workshops include:
  • principles of CLIL/ ‘bilingual’ methodology
  • roles of language and curriculum content in CLIL/ ‘bilingual’ pedagogy: balance and emphasis
  • using digital technology in CLIL
  • introduction to practical examples of bilingual tasks from one curriculum theme (eg. History or Biology): comparison with monolingual tasks and task types
  • monolingual and bilingual textbook evaluation
  • assessment issues in CLIL
  • reading strategies for bilingual learners
  • thinking skills
 
  • Digital and other resources will be shared and created together with participants and the trainer will provide a bank of useful websites and reference materials for further professional development.
 
  • Lecture on the Irish Education System
 
  • Walking tour of Dublin and cultural visits

Learning objectives

The course aims to provide teachers with the opportunity to:  
  • consider CLIL methodology and to acquire expertise and fresh ideas for teaching their subject in English
 
  • design and co-create materials and lesson plans and evaluate resources for teaching their subject in English and/or with L1/L2 (plurilingually)
 
  • consider the effective use of digital technology in planning and implementing CLIL lessons
 
  • refresh/improve their language skills, focusing on the language required to teach their subject(s) in English
 
  • exchange ideas and develop links with teachers from different European countries

Methodology & assessment

- Courses are delivered by education professionals with many years’ experience of teaching and training EU-funded teachers

- Practical workshops are tailored to the participants’ training needs

- Some sessions will include trainer presentation of concepts and materials which lead to a discussion and response. Other sessions will encourage participants to critically evaluate currently available materials (in pairs and groups) and produce materials and topic frameworks. Participants will be asked to do the tasks designed for students – a debate, a role play, a simulation, a range of reading tasks (including jigsaw reading) and writing tasks (including process writing).

- Reflection activities to encourage participants to think critically about their teaching practice and how to make improvements

- At the end of the course teachers participate in a detailed evaluation of the course

Certification details

  • A certificate of attendance (stating course title, location, dates, content, learning outcomes and number of hours) will be provided as required by the Quality standards for courses under Key Action 1
  • Erasmus+ documentation will be validated
  • Teachers will be provided with advice on how to complete their Learning Agreements if requested
