We are seven partner schools. We are a mix of urban and rural, large and small, and from different socio-economic backgrounds in countries Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Portugal and Romania. We cover north, south, east and west of Europe. Our project is entitled The Travelling Teds’ European Discoveries – The T.E.D Project. Migration is an issue affecting all our school communities, families leaving and arriving, changing the dynamics of our classrooms. Through the TED project we will prepare our pupils for the changes in their lives. We chose Teddy Bears as a symbol of our project to enable our pupils to deal with the emotional issues surrounding change in a safe way – through a third party, the teddy. Each teddy, in addition to his belongings, will bring with it, its diary, describing its everyday life and it’s feelings as it moves from country to country. On its journey, it will learn about each new country, its culture, its language and its daily life and, in return, teach about its own. In doing so, it will learn, that we are not so different: we share the same basic needs, hopes and dreams. It will learn that difference can be exciting. Change can be an adventure. We envisage that the project will enhance the intercultural education in our schools and continue to develop and enhance the ICT skills of both pupils and staff. Our partnership involves schools who are new to Comenius, as well as those with experience. This blend will bring a fresh perspective to ensure we learn from each other.
