This year's Erasmus+ call has a budget of around € 5.2 billion for 2026 to support cross-border mobility and cooperation projects that help people develop the skills they need for the future — from basic and digital skills to green, civic and soft skills.

New this year

In 2026, the Erasmus+ programme will introduce a new action to support more partnerships and mobility in the school sector.

These European partnerships for school development initiative will increase cooperation between schools and school authorities to test and implement innovative teaching methods relating to basic skills, supporting EU efforts in civic engagement, democratic participation, and promoting shared values.

Erasmus+ actions relevant for schools

For organisations in the school education field, including early childhood education and care and vocational education and training (VET), the main elements of the programme are:

  • Staff and learner mobility (Key Action 1): allowing teachers and trainers (including student teachers) and other school staff to attend training courses and take part in job shadowing or teaching assignments in another country.
  • Partnerships for cooperation (Key Action 2): allowing schools to work with other schools and organisations to improve teaching and learning approaches, enhance education quality and make education more relevant - including through the new European partnerships for school development

Under the Jean Monnet action, schools can apply for funding to integrate EU topics into their classroom learning under the Learning EU initiatives or Networks for schools

Who can apply?

Organisations working in education, training, youth or sport — including schools, universities, VET providers, NGOs and youth groups — are eligible to apply for Erasmus+ funding. Individuals such as students, teachers or young people don’t apply directly, but can take part through organisations that receive Erasmus+ grants.
