Our project focuses on identity, its construction via the use of language, e.g. regional varieties or vernacular, the creation and/or procreation of works of art and a political view on a regional, a national and a common European identity. Therefore we shall draw our attention to a number of subject matters such as music, i.e. for example the musical production in vernacular or local dialects, cooking, i.e. for example famous and popular regional food, and the matter of borders so essential in a Europe that once was a divided continent. Regarding the question of how to live near or next to national borders, we shall compare and contrast the experiences of students in the north of Ireland and Germany as to living in regions in which 'a border' or rather 'the border' has played and has been playing a vital role in political discussions as has been all to visible when reflecting on the matter of Brexit and its potential consequences for the region around Buncrana.
