Our schools are the houses of words. Words are the powerful substance of our learning, the communicative engine of our communities. By cultivating our linguistic baggage, we invest in our future. Words give us the possibility to analyse, ask and answer, describe, discuss, explain, explore, and express ourselves. We all use different languages. In class we do not only use our mother tongue, but also English and other modern or classical languages. Some of us are bilingual or even polyglots. Our linguistic richness makes us strong. We all have certain words that are particularly meaningful to us: words that evoke a treasured memory, form part of our idiolect, refer to someone or something we care about. Some of these words tickle our imagination and create powerful feelings. Our words reflect our uniqueness and our way of seeing the world around us. We find them amusing, challenging, inspiring, mesmerising, sometimes even mind blowing. Let’s celebrate together the European Day of Languages, 26th September 2023, with a dedicated international contest. The contest has two levels: class level and international level.
