Outdoor Teaching Lessons
Outdoor education is an educational approach that involves conducting activities and lessons outside the classroom, taking advantage of the natural environment as a teaching resource. This form of teaching offers students the opportunity to learn in a more hands-on way by exploring and interacting with the world around them.
The activities developed in the Erasmus Outdoor Learning in a Funny way project made it possible to implement outdoor learning. Different activities carried out outdoors were carried out, namely:
- Field studies: students were taken to parks, nature reserves and other locations that offered learning opportunities related to the topics in each Class' curriculum.
- Outdoor science lessons: Conduct science experiments outside the classroom, exploring concepts such as sunlight, the water cycle, ecology and biodiversity.
- Reading activities: Promoted reading books outdoors, as well as writing.
- Physical education classes: performing physical activities outdoors enjoying nature, such as sports games and walks.
- Outdoor art: Conducted art classes outdoors, allowing students to come into contact with natural materials or explore art techniques using elements from the environment.
- Farming and gardening: Creating school gardens where students can learn about plant life cycle, harvesting and nutrition.
- Food: Understanding environmental responsibility, sustainability and its link to healthy eating through responsible food consumption and knowing where the food comes from.
- History lessons: Students went to historical or cultural sites, such as museums, archaeological sites or historical monuments. Students can learn about the history and culture of their region in a more immersive way.
Outdoor learning offers a variety of benefits for students. In addition to fostering a more meaningful connection with nature and the world around them, it also encourages curiosity, creativity, teamwork and problem solving. Furthermore, the Erasmus Outdoor Learning in a Funny Way project has provided a change of school environment and perspective that can make teaching more enjoyable and stimulating for many students.
