Day 5 - 3rd March: Around Gragnano
The Mills Valley
and
Villa San Marco
3rd March In the morning we walked down The Mills Valley. Once there, Mr. Peppino Di Massa (President od the Association "Centro di Cultura e Storia di Gragnano e Monti Lattari, Alfonso Maria di Nola") joined us and shared his knowledge about the history of the Mills over the centuries and its meaning for Gragnano. Along the path we were also introduced to the many forms of plants and lush vegetation we had never seen before!
Afterwards we visited the Stabian Villa San Marco on the Varano hill Archaeological site. Our students acted as tour guides for their A.L.i.E.N. guests!
Buried by the eruption of 79 A. D. the Villa provides architecture, paintings, mosaics, frescoes and artworks offering insights into the lifesyles of Roman Aristocracy. It was a History &Art lesson in action!
