1. Project’s description The project titled “The poetic Balkans a message of peace ” was born as a inner need of a group of students who want to know deeper and better about their old neighbors, their history, traditions, culture, literary and artistic heritage , which altogether are bonds of friendship between countries. This internal need comes as an outcome of the limited translations into Albanian language of the Balkan authors. Students acquire information about Balkan history, its traditions and culture in the school curriculum but this information remains within the framework of one or two scheduled lessons. As far as literature and art are concerned, the focus remains almost exclusively on Greek neighbors, mentioning the period of Greek Antiquity, Homer and some tragedians who lived in the epoch. That's not enough! Nowadays the possibilities of gathering information are boundless, exceeding the limits of the curricula and written books. Anyway, student’s desire to learn and to know each other should be well oriented and supported. “The long lasting inflows and the outflows” have transformed the Balkans into a mosaic of ethnics, languages, ideas, beliefs, literature and at the same time why not a mosaic of separation and fragmentation, old and new conflicts that lie awake. Beyond the language of hatred and events of the day, literature nourishes cultures and unites people around a message, the message of peace. In the metaphorical sense, the Balkans is called "bridge” between East and West, but how do the Balkans ‘countries consider themselves among them? Do they consider themselves bridges or walls? In response to the dilemma, we chose Poetry as a bridge to break down the walls that divide us ... So close and so far.... how many things unite us and how little we know each other, how little we share with each other… In this context, into the “Balkans woods” we need to search for those “long oaks” that have glorified homeland, freedom, peace and human dignity. Regardless to the language or the nationality it belongs, human soul rejoices, suffers, curses, endures, and hopes the same. And poetry, the elite art, is the only way to show these feelings. The main focus of this project is to rediscover all Balkans countries under the perspective of the message of peace each country conveys turning it into a daily motto. A global citizen in the twentieth century, a Europe without borders, our integration into Europe recognizing and respecting our national identity and values is our goal.We need to look closer to the values of national poetry as guidance toward spiritual enrichment, and intellectual formation of the young generation.
